How Carboy reads sizes from variant names
The units Carboy understands, names that work, names it refuses, and how to fix them.
Carboy reads each size from the variant's name in Shopify, the text you see as Sample / 2ml or 250g bag. It looks for a number followed by a unit. When it can't be sure, it leaves the size empty for you to fill in. It never guesses.
Units it understands
- Volume:
ml,l,fl oz(also writtenfl. ozorfloz). - Weight:
g,kg,oz,lbandlbs.
Capitals don't matter (10 mL, 8 FL OZ) and the space is optional (5ml, 5 ml). Decimals can use a point or a comma: 2.5 ml and 2,5 ml are both 2.5 ml. A comma followed by exactly three digits separates thousands, so 1,000 g is 1 kg.
oz is always weight, 28.35 g. Volume is fl oz, 29.57 ml. A pool holds either volume or weight, and can mix units within it: 4 oz and 100 g sizes can share one sack.

|---|---|---|

500mg | Milligrams aren't read | 0.5 g |
10/12 g | Looks like a date, not a fraction | 0.83 g |
1 quart, 2 pints | Quarts and pints aren't read | 32 fl oz, 32 fl oz |
5-10ml | A range isn't one size | One variant per size |
ml 5 | The unit must follow the number | 5 ml |
Two sizes in one name
When a name holds more than one size, Carboy reads the last one. 10ml / Refill 5ml is read as 5 ml, and 2 oz (57 g) as 57 g.
Watch for sets. 3 x 5ml is read as 5 ml, not 15 ml. When you make a pool by hand, untick a set or type 15 ml as its portion. Set up many uses names as they are, so rename sets in Shopify before you scan, or make that product's pool by hand.
Fixing a size
- Making one pool: every portion is a field you can edit. Type the size (
5 ml,100 g) or untick the variant to leave it out. - Set up many: sizes come straight from the names. Variants without a readable size are listed as Not pooled and left out. A product needs at least two different readable sizes to be listed at all. Rename its variants in Shopify and scan again, or make its pool by hand.
- Sealed full bottles and other variants that don't come out of the pool can stay unticked. Carboy leaves their stock alone.
